Adult Workshops

Whether you love to create or are afraid to touch a paint brush you are going to love playing with art materials in my home art studio! There is no 'right' way to create! There are many methods where you can be successful right away. I focus on the process so that you can sink into the joy of color, new methods and experimentation! Remember back to when you were a child. There was a time when you knew you were good at ‘art.’ You painted, drew, molded and glued with excitement, concentration and abandonment. Join me in my home art studio to go back to that time of exploring for the pure joy of creating! Forget your worries and involve your whole self in the creative process. Try new paint techniques, unique art approaches and carefree playtime with a variety of art materials. Enjoy the moment and leave more relaxed and centered.

Children's Classes

Children love the process of exploring and experimenting with art materials. In scheduled workshops, individual sessions and summer art camps children will have opportunities to use a variety of art materials and methods to inspire creativity and learning. Watercolor and acrylic painting, drawing, oil pastels, collage, and mixed media, along with unique techniques will be emphasized.

Each child has an intuitive creative process that will be treated with the utmost respect. Artist, Denise Konen, has over 25 years of experience working with children as a Parent Educator and understands their development and approach to art exploration. The goal of this series is to bring out a child's natural inventiveness and joy in creating, while developing new skills

Sample Sessions

• Playing with Paint  - Thick rich paints pull at a longing to dig in and play. Experiment with acrylic paint and different art processes to release your inner artist! Try drop and swirl painting, mono prints, and beautiful sculpted paste paper. The fun is in the process so even the ‘faint at art’ can be successful!
• Creative Collaged Containers  - Contained within each of us is a creative spirit that longs to explore all kinds of art materials. Using tissue paper, matte medium, paint pens, feathers and unusual embellishments, you will create a container to hold your creative dreams and symbols.
• Stamped and Embossed Greeting Cards  - It can be such a pleasure to use simple materials and be surprised by the results. Design fun or elegant cards using permanent ink, stamps, colored embossing powders and a heat gun. Use colored pencils to give life to your creations.
• Exploring the Richness of Color  - Would you like to see what you could do with the luscious texture and colors of oil pastels? Even those who can’t draw at all will enjoy the possibilities of this media. You will learn layering, etching and color principles as you open up to the artist within!

Sample Sessions

• Watercolor Made Easy and Fun!  - Watercolors are so flowing and inviting! Let go of all your preconceptions and try something new! There are easy experiments using salt, alcohol, and wet and dry brushes, that anyone can do to enjoy the process of putting paint to paper and have fun with watercolors.
• Mixed Media Collages  - Why settle for one media when ten would be so much more exciting? Make a small collaged picture with your personal artistic touch using unusual yarns, paint, oil pastels, wire, gel pens, glitter, painted scraps, pictures, feathers, buttons and beads. Learn how to use design principles to create unique and striking works of art to frame and display.
• Asian-Inspired Treasure Boxes  - Take the time to slow down and create a one-of-a-kind box with your own unique artistic design. Use triangular, hinged wooden boxes, to create a beautiful treasure box using texture-rich, handmade papers, liquid acrylic paints and stains, stamps, and fun embellishments.
• Artist Choice  - Sessions can be cutomized to meet your interests.
